How It Started

I have always been fascinated with technology and the opportunity it provides to touch lives. This passion drove me to study Computer Engineering but it was not until after I discovered python in my first year in the university that I realised how programming can be used to tackle a lot of our day-to-day problems. Armed with my newfound programming skills, I would go on to build several solutions which eventually landed me an invite to a prestigious lab in the university. During this period, I got to collaborate with other students (MSc and PhD) and lecturers, working on fascinating projects in areas such as Natural Language Processing and Computer Vision. I would also go on to gain valuable industry experience by working remotely, primarily as a backend engineer, for multiple companies during the course of my remaining years in the university and even attempting to build my own startup.

How It’s Going

I currently work at a Y Combinator backed FinTech startup based in Lagos, working on making financial services affordable and accessible to the unbanked and underbanked populace in Africa. As the Operations Team Lead (DevOps/SRE), my primary assignment is to ensure that our core systems, responsible for providing financial services to thousands of people daily, are available, reliable and secure.
